Summer is the perfect time to fall in love with the joy of the open road all over again. If you’re looking to get out there and experience something new this summer but aren’t sure where to start, check out our list of best summer road trips and get ready for a drive you’ll remember into the autumn and beyond.
Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway should be on every road tripper’s bucket list. A 469-mile route that connects Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Parkway offers up beautiful views throughout and tons of surprises. This is especially true if you’re interested in Appalachian history and culture, as there is quite a bit to be found along your journey.
The Deep South
The route from Charleston, South Carolina, to New Orleans, Louisiana, takes you through some of the most beautiful and iconic locations in the American Deep South. Stops along the way include Atlanta, Georgia; and Selma and Montgomery, Alabama, which were key sites in the civil rights movement. You’ll also navigate through some of the most picturesque, tree-lined streets in the entire country and cruise through quaint towns with plenty of great shopping opportunities.
While you can jump on Highway 50 just about anywhere in the country, we suggest a 1,066-mile route from Pueblo, Colorado, to Lake Tahoe. Once you’re in Nevada, you’ll understand why this stretch has earned the nickname The Loneliest Road—it’s isolated, quiet, and perfect for reflection. Amazing scenery, breathtaking landscapes, and miles of open road—this road trip should satisfy even the most hardcore road trippers.
There’s nothing quite as enjoyable in the summertime as a good ol’ fashioned road trip, even if it’s just hauling out to Milwaukee or making the trek up north to Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. If you are in the market for a reliable new ride to do it all in, stop into Don Larson GM and peruse our selection.
