The durable and powerful Chevrolet Silverado is all about delivering a range of options for its drivers. The Silverado’s list of impressive powertrains is about to expand with the next-generation 2019 model, which adds an advanced 2.7-liter Turbo engine that will be the new standard in the LT and RST trims.
“The new 2.7L Turbo is a technological marvel, with our most advanced valvetrain,” said Tom Sutter, chief engineer for the 2.7L Turbo. “With a broad, flat torque curve and quick throttle response, it punches above its weight, delivering surprising performance and efficiency.”
The 2.7-liter Turbo will deliver 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque, delivering 22 percent more torque than the outgoing 4.3-liter V6 engine. Thanks to an aluminum block and cylinder head, it will also be quite a bit lighter than the V6 of old—380 pounds to be exact—enabling the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado to go from 0-60 mph in less than seven seconds.
Additionally, the 2.7-liter Turbo will mark the first time that Chevrolet has utilized Active Fuel Management technology on a four-cylinder engine and the first time it has used Active Thermal Management, the latter of which improves engine performance by regulating temperature.
This mighty engine will be one of the many offerings available with the 2019 Chevy Silverado when it arrives at Don Larson GM this fall.
