The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 offers a variety of cutting-edge features like Adaptive Ride Control, the industry-first MultiPro™ tailgate, and even a first-of-its-kind CarbonPro carbon fiber truck bed. One of the Sierra’s most useful new tools that hasn’t been getting as much pub — but certainly deserves it — is a Perimeter Lighting System.
The 2019 Sierra SLT, AT4, and Denali trims offer the Perimeter Lighting System as a standard feature. This feature (also called Task Lighting) illuminates the area surrounding the Sierra as well as the truck’s bed, making it much easier to load cargo or tackle other jobs in dark or poorly lit conditions.
The system is made up of eight LED lights located at these points on the Sierra: in the tailgate handle cluster, in the reverse lights, at the beds’ rear corners, and above the rear glass, and on the rear-facing part of the mirror caps.
Along with the Perimeter Lighting LEDs, the Sierra’s heated, power-folding, and power-adjustable mirrors also feature puddle lamps.
This new system represents a significant advance from the previous Sierra. The 2018 model offered cargo box lighting, which only lit up the area inside the box.
