General Motors is partnering with AT&T to bring 5G internet to future GM vehicles. Compared to the 4G available in most new GM vehicles, 5G internet allows for a faster, stronger connection that improves download speeds, sound quality, and even GPS road maps.
The built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi® Hotspot has been offered across the GM lineup for years, making it easy for drivers to stream their favorite content, use preferred navigation apps, and even transform their car or truck into a mobile workspace. This upgrade ensures that future Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicles give you even more of the functionality and intelligence you want.
Once 5G is available, you don’t have to buy a brand-new car to get access to it. GM will allow you to upgrade to 5G if your GM vehicle is model year 2019 or newer.
AT&T covers 250 million people throughout the U.S., making it the perfect partner to help GM bring 5G cellular data to its vehicles. GM uses a wide range of services connected to 4G internet like OnStar® and Connected Services, and with the addition of 5G, those services will offer even better and more reliable connection to GM customers.
5G Wi-Fi® Hotspots won’t be available until the 2024 model year, which is closer than you think. In the meantime, fast and reliable 4G LTE Wi-Fi is still offered in many of the new Chevy, Buick, and GMC vehicles you’ll find at Don Larson Buick GMC in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
